WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Across the previous three John Wick films, John has always been on the move either towards or from something. Every time he’s moving, it’s because of his consequences. In John Wick, the consequences of John being attacked in his home results in the rampage against Iosef. In John Wick Chapter 2, John is unwillingly roped back into the assassin lifestyle by Santino D’Antonio. When D’Antonio sets John up to be killed, John seals his own fate by breaking Continental rules and killing him on hotel grounds. In John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, John must face the consequences of his own actions rather than his enemies facing the consequences of their actions. John Wick Chapter 4 continues this tradition of consequences with John facing his own consequences once again while the High Table also faces the consequences of their own actions.
Starting with John’s consequences, all he wants to do is get out and return to his normal life again. Through a lengthy trial run to get John’s family to arrange a duel with the High Table, John’s life under the Table is able to come to a close. Throughout the movie, one of the High Table’s members Marquis de Gramont chases after John all the way from Osaka, Japan to Paris, France. The main way that the Marquis hunts John is by either sending the High Table’s forces after him or tipping off all of the different assassins where John is. The Marquis is arrogant by default, but his arrogance is what eventually gets the best of him. In the final duel, the Marquis aims to kill John Wick, but Wick still has one free shot which he uses to kill the Marquis, thus winning the duel and gaining his freedom, which is unfortunately short-lived due to John passing from his bullet wounds acquired during the duel.

This High Table also dealt with consequences leading up to the duel. At the start of the film, John kills the One Above the Table and later on kills multiple High Table forces. Those are consequences forced on the Table by John, but what about consequences forced against them by others? Take Caine for an example. All Caine wants is to ensure his daughter remains safe. Once Caine realizes his goals require teaming up with John to make sure he makes it to the duel safely, the High Table has to deal with Caine helping John kill all of the assassins sent after John. The High Table also faces the wrath of the Osaka Continental whenever they send their forces to find John Wick who is hiding there, which results in John and the Osaka Continental killing all of the forces sent after them.
John Wick Chapter 4 is a film that revolves around consequences, the people it starts with, and the people they affect. As a film itself, John Wick Chapter 4 is by far the best of the four John Wick films with brilliant acting, action scenes, and a stellar plot. John Wick Chapter 4 is in theaters now and while John may be gone, a spin-off titled Ballerina starring Ana de Armas is in the works, so we will return to the world of John Wick soon, but until then, I’ll be seeing you…
